STOW, Ohio - Twelve fire departments in Summit and Portage counties will now have animal rescue oxygen masks, thanks to a donation from Invisible Fence.

The company estimates that between 40,000 to 150,000 pets die in fires each year and most of the deaths are the result of smoke inhalation. That’s why Invisible Fence created Project Breathe, which gives fire stations across the country equipment to help our four-legged friends.

Nineteen mask kits specially designed for animals will be given to 12 fire departments, including Streetsboro, Ravenna, Twinsburg and Kent. Dr. Dana Jacobson of the Stow Kent Animal Hospital will lead training for the new pet oxygen masks on Sunday at the Stow Fire Department community room.

Each oxygen mask kit contains a small, medium and large mask to better aid pets of all sizes.
