HOMER TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Three people were seriously injured following a buggy accident in Medina County.

The crash happened at about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday. A Ford F-150 and Amish buggy collided on state Route 301 just south of Black River School Road in Homer Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. That’s just west of Lodi.

The truck driven by Justin Frey, 28, of Cleveland, struck the buggy, pushing it off the side of the roadway, according to troopers.

They said the driver of the buggy Joseph Swartzentruber, 25, of Spencer, as well as two passengers, Katie Swartzentruber and their 2-year-old daughter Lizzie were all ejected from the buggy and transported to hospitals.

Jospeh and Katie Swartzentruber were taken to Akron General Hospital. The 2-year-old girl was taken to Akron Children's Hospital. All three had serious injuries. Frey, the driver of the truck, was not injured.

The buggy suffered extensive damage and the horse pulling it had to be put down because of injuries.

OSHP said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and it remains under investigation.

Charges are pending based on review of the crash by the Medina County Prosecutor's Office.
