MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Montville police say no charges have been filed yet after a tanker hit the back of a tractor, closing State Route 3 all day Wednesday.

The crash happened around 7:27 a.m. in the 7400 block of Wooster Pike (State Route 3).

Authorities said John Harvey, 36, was hauling bales of hay with his tractor and trailer northbound on Wooster Pike from Summerwood Drive when he was hit from behind by a tanker truck carrying liquid asphalt.

Police said when the tanker/semi driver, Timothy Cox, 49, hit the tractor, it ejected Harvey and pushed the farm tractor and trailer off the road.

The tanker then rolled over, spilling part of the liquid asphalt onto the road and shoulder, authorities said.

Emergency responders from the Medina Fire Department, Medina Life Support Team and Metro Life Flight, worked for three hours to free Cox who was trapped in the cab of his semi.

EMS said Cox remained alert and responsive during the entire ordeal.

Harvey was up walking around after the crash and was as evaluated by medical staff at the scene. He was then treated and released from a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation and witnesses are still being interviewed.

“At this time, it is too early in the investigation to determine the at-fault party; therefore no charges have been issued. The speed limit in that area of Wooster Pike is 55 mph,” said Montville police in a news release.
