MEDINA TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A man crashed into a construction crane that was parked on a closed section of a Medina Township road just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
The crane was parked on Fenn Road inside a closed construction zone when authorities said Marc Kiszak struck it, setting the car on fire. Kiszak was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center where he's listed in critical condition.
According to Medina Township firefighters, Kiszak was found just outside the burning car in a ditch. Firefighters do not believe the man was ejected from the car during the crash.
The windshield of the car was hanging from the front bumper of the crane and most of the roof had been torn from the charred car.
Firefighters said alcohol appears to be a factor in the wreck. Dozens of beer cans were found in the debris at the scene.
A neighbor said the crash sounded like a plane dropping a bomb.
No other passengers were in the car at the time of the crash.
Fenn Road has been closed since July 2 for bridge replacement and will remain closed for another 60 days.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
