BRUNSWICK, Ohio - The family of a Brunswick teen killed in a car accident last June has notified police that photographs and notes have been stolen from his grave site at Eastlawn Memory Gardens.
James and Sherri Fox told officers that, over the past two weekends, someone has been taking pictures and ripping out passages from a notebook inside a memory box at the grave.
Kevin Fox, along with Lexi Poerner, Blake Bartchak and Jeff Chaya, were killed in a car accident in June on Boston Road in Columbia Township. All four were students at Brunswick High School.
Fox's sister, Colleen Fox, posted a message of concern on a Facebook memorial page in honor of teens.
"It's unfortunate that people are stealing the notes written from friends and family members to these four beautiful angels. Please keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Our four beautiful angels are untouchable by this evil and they are probably praying for those committing these vicious acts," Colleen Fox wrote.
Nick Solar, a spokesman for the Brunswick Police Department, said the department has "special attention" on the cemetery and officers are planing extra patrols, especially on the weekends.
"It just deepens the wound and hurts when you have a family member that's resting in peace and somebody is altering their grave site," Solar said.
Brunswick High School Matt Roden learned about the cemetery thefts on Facebook.
"It's heartbreaking. If I was the parent of Kevin, if I went up there, I'd probably shed a little tears for people taking my son's stuff," Roden said.
J.B. Patton, a spokesperson for Eastlawn Memory Gardens, said he's very bothered that someone would disturb a sacred resting place and hopes police catch the thief quickly.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Brunswick Police Department.
