BRUNSWICK, Ohio - Heartspace United Church of Christ opens its doors to help feed those in need in the Brunswick community. The church runs a program called Soup's On. It's a community meal that helps the feed the less fortunate in the city as well as surrounding areas.
Soup's On takes place on the third Wednesday of the month from from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the last Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The food pantry is also open at that time.
Soup's On was started by Sandy O'Hare, who at first was a bit frightened to do it.
“I thought about starting a feeding program for a year before finally getting the courage to begin,” said O'Hare to Alexis Gemelas, BEAT Reporter for the Brunswick Schools.
And even when the program first began, no one showed up for the first six months it existed. “Slowly, slowly people started to arrive."
