WADSWORTH, Ohio - A Barberton man has been charged with aggravated murder and more after police said he broke into a familiar home and shot two girls, killing one in Akron.
Akron police said David Stoddard, 24, is currently behind bars, facing multiple charges including aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and more. The charges stem from an early Sunday morning shooting in Firestone Park.
According to authorities, Stoddard broke into a home in the 200 block of East Archwood Ave. via the sliding rear door minutes before 4 a.m. That's where police said he fatally shot a 16-year-old girl in the living room and a 19-year-old in the kitchen.
Following the shooting, police said Stoddard took off. Witnesses at the scene were able to identify him and his car.
Hours later in Wadsworth, police tracked Stoddard down at the Legacy Inn on High Street, where officers burst into Stoddard's hotel room and arrested him.
The 19-year-old victim, from Norton, is listed in critical condition at an Akron hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.
Neither victim's name has been released until their families are notified.
While Akron police aren't sure of the motive, they said the shooting was not random and that Stoddard knew the people who lived at the East Archwood home.
