Vermilion police say man was masturbating in car outside middle school

VERMILION, Ohio - A 12-year-old reported a man was masturbating outside a Vermilion middle school.

The 12-year-old boy was walking through the parking lot of Sailorway Middle School to his mother’s car on Sept. 11 when he saw a man “playing with himself,” police said.

The boy told his mother that the man had his shorts pulled down and his shirt pulled up, the police department said. The man did not say anything to the young student.

The boy’s mother also witnessed the man reclined back in his car with his shirt still pulled up. She warned the crossing guard, then contacted the school and police.

Vermilion officers found the man, who claimed he rolled up his shirt because he didn’t want to use his car’s air-conditioning.

The man was identified as Billy McCauley of Wakeman. McCauley denied masturbating and said he was at the school to pick up his grandchildren.

Police said he was arrested on one count of public indecency on Sept. 26 and posted bail. McCauley is set to appear in court on Oct. 2.
