AMHERST, Ohio - A pair of traffic stops Monday a mile apart along the Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County led to authorities seizing drugs.
Troopers first stopped a Hyundai Accent shortly before 4 p.m. for a marked lanes violation on the Turnpike. While troopers were talking with the driver, they could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A probable cause search revealed a pound of high-grade marijuana, worth $7,500.
Eric Campbell, 35, of Maryland, is behind bars in the Lorain County Jail, charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated drug trafficking. If convicted he could face up to two years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
Roughly two hours later, troopers stopped a Chevy Silverado for the same reason as the Hyundai. They said marijuana residue was in plain view and the driver was operating the vehicle while under suspension.
A probable cause search turned up five ounces of crack cocaine, worth more than $15,000.
The driver, Zollie M. Talley, 66, of New Castle, Pa., was booked into the Lorain County Jail, charged with possession of crack cocaine and aggravated drug trafficking.
If convicted Talley could face up to 20 years in prison and up to a $40,000 fine.
