ELYRIA, Ohio - American Legion Post 12 in Elyria was broken into over the weekend, marking the third break-in at the post this month.
Elyria police said it happened at about 1 a.m. Sunday and, like the two incidents before, the suspect put a hole through the drywall. Nothing was taken this time.
During the previous burglaries at the post, which opened in 1926, the thief tore through two interior walls after entering the building. According to police reports, more than $2,000 was taken from the office safe in the first burglary.
Members of the post called the situation “ridiculous” and “heartbreaking” when they talked to NewsChannel5’s Kristin Volk earlier this month.
The stolen money was to be used for youth baseball programs and helping out hospitalized veterans.
