ELYRIA, Ohio - A Wisconsin man has made the naughty list after troopers unwrapped the presents inside his car on the Ohio Turnpike and found pounds of pot.
Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers seized 30 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, worth an estimated $192,000 after a traffic stop in Lorain County Thursday.
Troopers said they stopped a 2005 BMW X3 SUV with Illinois registration for a marked lanes violation near milepost 139 of the Ohio Turnpike at 10:49 a.m.
Criminal indicators and a drug-sniffing canine alerted troopers to the car, which was full of marijuana covered up as wrapped Christmas gifts.
The driver, Armando Flores Deleon, 33, of Madison, Wis., was put in the Lorain County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana, which is a third-degree felony.
Deleon could face up to five years in prison and as much as a $10,000 fine if convicted.
The state highway patrol said it has made 1,423 more drug arrests this year than in the same time period last year.
