LORAIN, Ohio - An argument outside a Lorain apartment complex landed police at the property and ended with a man's arrest for allegedly punching a police dog.

It happened around 3 a.m. Sunday on Pearl Avenue, where someone called police to alert them of the fight outside the apartment building where weapons were heard to be involved.

When police arrived, they found Willie Ramos Jr., 42, arguing with another man. He then took off on foot when confronted by police.

Before unleashing K-9 Kriss, the policeman shouted, "Police department K-9 unit, sound off now or I will send my dog. When he finds you, he will bite you," the report noted.

After waiting for a response, K-9 Kriss was let loose. Not long after, he traced the man to bushes in the front yard of Sacred Heart Church.

When the K-9's partner made his way there, he found Ramos punching Kriss's head and body. The officer ordered Ramos to stop hitting his partner, but he didn't listen.

To avoid K-9 Kriss from being seriously injured, the officer punched Ramos in the face "to disorient him and make him let go of my partner," the report stated.

Ramos was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries before being booked in jail.

K-9 Kriss was OK and even continued to track down evidence for his human partner, including pills.

Ramos has been charged with resisting arrest, assault on a police dog and possession of counterfeit evidence. The 42-year-old also had an outstanding warrant.
