ELYRIA, Ohio - At least one employee sustained burn injuries after an overnight explosion and fire at the Elyria Foundry early Friday morning.
According to Elyria Assistant Fire Chief Ron Brlas, the fire was started by an explosion after metal containing excess moisture was mixed with a batch of molten metal.
The explosion then ignited an upper wall and a portion of the building’s roof.
Paramedics transported one employee for burns to the back to a nearby hospital for observation and treatment.
Fire crews spent nearly two hours strategically working the fire to avoid causing any additional motel steel explosions.
