LORAIN, Ohio - The Ohio National Guard Lorain Armory Unit 837th Engineer Company is being deployed to support Operation Enduring Freedom in the Middle East later this month.
The Lorain VFW is holding a send-off party Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. for troops and their families. A larger community send-off is being planned at Lorain County Community College on Jan. 25.
Cpt. Chad Apple confirmed to NewsChannel5 that the troops are being deployed, but would not confirm the number of troops or exact destination.
Organizers of the send-off parties have been getting donations from businesses throughout Lorain County for the parties.
Anyone who would like to donate items that troops are in need of while being deployed overseas can do so at the Ohio National Guard Armory located at 3520 Grove Ave. in Lorain.
Personal hygiene items and hard candy are always needed and appreciated, according to Cpt. Apple.
The troops ship out at the end of January.
