LORAIN, Ohio - A Lorain man is recovering after police said someone threw a lit explosive into his apartment.
"I just want to be able to understand," said Craig Johnson from his Lorain apartment.
Johnson came home with his girlfriend, Laurie Greer, Wednesday night. He said normally she sits on the couch.
"That night, she said, I'm going to sit here on the floor," said Johnson.
Johnson said he saw a light from the window.
"It looked like a torch," he said.
They both jumped to the floor and covered their faces.
"The blast went all over my head. Oh it was a mess in here. I just cleaned it up in here," said the 59-year-old Johnson.
The blast came from the window and tore a hole in the curtain.
"When it exploded I thought the thing blew my face off. It went off so fast," said Johnson.
His face was OK, but Johnson and Greer couldn't hear each other.
"We was reading each other lips because I said, Laurie, I can't hear," said Johnson.
Police arrived and said someone place a lit firework in the windowsill. Officers told Johnson it could have been an M-1000, an illegal and highly dangerous explosive.
"How could you forgive somebody and forget something like that," said Johnson.
Johnson is ready to forget his neighborhood altogether. He said he plans on moving next month.
Lorain police are investigating.
