LORAIN, Ohio - A man from Lorain got quite the surprise Wednesday when he found an SUV laying on his house after a crash.
Andrew Edreff discovered the nearly-vertical 2006 Ford Escape just before 3 a.m. on Root Road.
“I look out my window and I see car parts all over my yard and flames right by my window,” he said.
Police said the SUV was driven by 23-year-old John Christopher North. North and a 28-year-old woman who was with him were taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. At last check, the two were in fair condition.
Police said an unidentified male fled the scene. The Lorain Police Department said the case is still under investigation, but a spokesperson said North refused a breathalyzer.
“I look over at my phone and it’s vibrating, but I didn’t pay any attention to it,” Edreff told NewsChannel5.
Witnesses said flames could be seen coming from the SUV, which had Edreff’s mom concerned.
“I mean, who expects a car to be hanging from the front of their house and one person laying in my front yard while the other is hanging out the driver’s window?” Isabel Edreff said while outside her home.
Andrew Edreff used his cell phone to record the SUV on his house. He posted it on his Facebook page and on YouTube. He said he has already gotten a lot of hits. What really got everyone talking was the bolder the SUV hit, which was found about 150 feet away from Edreff’s neighbor’s yard.
“After everyone was away from the car,” he said with a curious look on his face, “my neighbor’s like, ‘Where is my rock?’ He had a boulder in his front yard and it was like three yards down.”
Isabel Edress said her husband hadn’t seen the damage because he was not home. She said he has done a lot of work on the house and was going to be very angry when he got home. She said the people involved are “very irresponsible."
