CLEVELAND - Two security officers at the Lorain and Clearview boys basketball game called police for backup, after a cheerleader sparked a fight during the game that nearly led to a brawl.
The security officers said a large crowd was gathered outside Lorain High School's gym, where a cheerleader began yelling at a girl who supposedly bumped into her. When the security guards told the cheerleader to walk away, she instead continued pushing her way through the 100 or so people to start a fight, a police report stated.
As one security guard grabbed the cheerleader, her boyfriend allegedly pushed him, yelling expletives. That's when the boyfriend and security guard got into an altercation. The boyfriend was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed.
At the same time, another student was pushing his way toward the security officer holding down the boyfriend, trying to get the crowd to fight. That teen was also put in handcuffs.
As the crowd became larger and more defiant, the guards called police for backup. A patrolman and his K9, Kriss, came to the school to help control the crowd. After repeated failed attempts to get the students to leave the building, the patrolman commanded his K9 to bark, immediately clearing the crowd.
The trio were taken into custody. All three juveniles were charged with disorderly conduct. The boyfriend was also slapped with an assault charge.
The security guards were not seriously hurt and did not seek medical attention.
