ELYRIA, Ohio - Superhero Weekend flew in early in Elyria. It began Thursday, just in time for the premiere of Iron Man 3, but the weekend will be chock-full of “super” and “fantastic” events and it all as to do with not only superheroes, but promoting literacy as well.
Event organizers say they’re getting kids exciting about superheroes in the hopes that they’ll pick up a comic and read about them instead of playing video games.
Colin Harriman, a 17-year-old who enjoys reading comics said, “ … it's something fun you know, it's not boring literature that goes through your head you know, it's hard for them to read.”
Richard Hooper with Keith’s Comics, one of the businesses behind Superhero Weekend said, “… Superheroes are kind of here in a weird way to save America because if you get kids into reading early and something that's kind of fun, maybe they'll stick with it and maybe they'll stay in school.”
