CLEVELAND - A fourth Brunswick teen has died after a crash that happened in Columbia Township early Sunday morning.
Kevin Fox, 18, was pronounced dead Monday morning at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Fox's family released the following statement:
Kevin Fox has passed away. We are grateful for the overwhelming support that the Northeast Ohio community has given our family during this difficult time.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Fox was thrown from the car into a ditch, which was going at a high rate of speed and went airborne over a railroad crossing on Boston Road.
Three other teenagers, the driver, 18-year-old Jeffrey Chaya, front passenger 17-year-old Blake Bartchak, and 16-year-old Lexi Poerner, all from Brunswick, were also killed in the crash.
The right-rear passenger, 17-year-old Julia Romito of Brunswick, was taken by Valley City Fire to Southwest General Hospital, where her condition is unknown.
Tragedy hit the community on a day that was supposed to be marked by celebration. More than 600 Brunswick students graduated at commencement ceremonies at the University of Akron Sunday.
Later that night, community members gathered for a prayer vigil at St. Ambrose.
“I woke up to it and I don’t even know what to think. I just can’t believe this actually happened,” student Melissa Myers said.
"They were very popular students, very well-liked," said Brunswick Schools Superintendent Michael Mayell.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
