ELYRIA, Ohio -

The Elyria Police Department and Lorain County Bomb Squad were on scene at a nearby business for a suspicious package Saturday afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene at Ridge Tool Company on Clark Street around 3 p.m. for a suspicious looking box with a wire hanging out of it that had been recently left behind the building.

Police said they were concerned for the safety and well being of the surrounding neighborhood as well as the workers at the company and felt they had to detonate the box to be safe.

Officers on the bomb squad said it appears the box was empty and was not a threat. As of 4:30 p.m. the scene was cleared and the road was reopened.
