ELYRIA, Ohio - An armed robbery at a cellphone store forced two schools in Elyria to be put on lockdown.
St. Mary School and Elyria High School were placed on lockdown for about 10 minutes Thursday because of a robber in the area.
Police said the robbery happened around 2:10 p.m. at Nooks store, located on Middle Avenue, across the street from Elyria High School.
The schools were placed on lockdown as police called in the Lorain County sheriff’s canine to help search for the suspect, who is still at large. The lockdown was later lifted after police determined the students wouldn’t be in danger if released from school.
The suspect was wearing a white hooded-sweatshirt with speckles on it, blue jeans and a red bandana around his neck. He was armed with a silver handgun.
Anyone with additional information on this armed robbery is asked to call the Elyria Police Department.
