ELYRIA, Ohio - A 57-year-old woman was arrested after police say she left her dog alone in her minivan on a 91-degree day.
Elyria police were called to the Walmart on Chestnut Commons Drive on Monday at about 12:35 p.m. for a report of a dog in a car for more than 20 minutes.
The responding officer said the dog, which appeared to be a black lab, did not have any water and was “obviously in distress panting heavily.” The car was not running and the driver’s side window was partially cracked.
The dog’s owner, Darlene Jacovetti, returned to the car and told police she was only gone for 15 minutes and the dog has anxiety issues. She was arrested on a cruelty to animals charged and released on a court summons.
Monday set a new record as the hottest Memorial Day in Cleveland.
