LORAIN, Ohio - Nearly 100 soldiers with the Ohio Army National Guard's 837th Engineer Company in Lorain County are heading to Afghanistan. Before they deploy, the Lorain community is invited to sendoff the local soldiers in style by lining the city streets in a parade like fashion.
Lorain police will escort the soldiers in buses from Lorain to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
The route will start south on SR 57 then head left onto East 42nd, then turn right onto Palm Avenue to Fairless Drive, then right onto Fairless Drive to SR 57, then left onto SR 57, and south to the Ohio Turnpike.
The sendoff starts at 1 p.m. but organizers say if you plan to take part, you should arrive at about 12:30 p.m. Public parking is available off of Fairless behind the Burger King restaurant.
