VERMILION, Ohio - A card scanner and small video camera were found on an ATM in Vermilion on Saturday.
Vermilion police were called to the Fifth Third Bank on Liberty Avenue for a suspicious item attached to the ATM’s card reader. The skimmer was removed by service technicians.
Bank security told police about a possible suspect and vehicle spotted on surveillance video. Police said the video also indicated another gadget had been planted on the ATM.
“The device appeared to be part of the trim work of the ATM with the only discrepancy observed was a pin size hole pointing down at the key pad,” police said. That turned out to be a tiny video camera.
The incident is still under investigation and other area police departments were alerted about the suspect.
