AVON, Ohio - Avon police have closed the investigation into inappropriate contact involving a 2-year-old at a YMCA.
Earlier this month, the girl’s family alerted police of the possible incident at the Avon French Creek YMCA’s Child Watch area, a part of the facility set aside for child care.
Officers spoke with the 2-year-old girl, her family, YMCA employees, other parents and members of the recreation center. They also reviewed 24 hours of surveillance video from 59 cameras and the YMCA’s safety procedures for evidence the girl was inappropriately touched, Avon police said.
“Based upon the information which was gathered our agency could find no evidence of any abuse at the YMCA or any other location,” the Avon Police Department said in a news release on Thursday.
The YMCA of Greater Cleveland also released a statement after police decided there was no basis for the allegations.
“The YMCA of Greater Cleveland remains a safe haven for all our members and guests, and especially the children entrusted to our care. Their safety and security is our top priority. As an organization, we remain committed to developing youth, promoting healthy living, and being socially responsible. We thank the Avon Police Department for the thoroughness and thoughtfulness of their recently completed investigation.”
