ELYRIA, Ohio - Ely Square in Elyria was filled with people Tuesday night commemorating the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11 with a candlelight service.
"I feel these people need to be recognized," Gina Gordon said.
The candlelight service was organized by Bobbie Sears and Heather Sorg, two Facebook friends who wanted to make sure that Elyria never forgets.
Sorg said she was so touched by 9/11 that she joined the Air Force Reserves in 2008.
"Never forget," she said.
Many in attendance wore commemorative T-shirts. Others dressed in red, white and blue, or held flags. Some also brought a donation for the Lorain County Food Bank.
"It's nice to sometimes gather as a community and get together and just kind of enjoy each other," said Tim Novak, "enjoy the calmness and the peacefulness of it."
This is the second 9/11 service organized by Sears and Sorg, who say they plan to make it an annual event.
