AVON, Ohio - The City of Avon is warning residents Wednesday of a possible telephone scam.

The Avon Utility Department said someone is making unauthorized telephone calls trying to get into people’s homes to change or to work on water meters.

These telephone calls have been coming from a 1-877 number but that toll-free number is not legitimate.

The City of Avon Utility Department said they do not have a procedure in place to do this and if you get this kind of call don’t give anyone access to your home.

If you have any questions, call the city of Avon Utility Department at (440) 937-5740 and ask for verification of any telephone call that you get about your utilities.
