COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Parole Board is ready to recommend whether a condemned obese killer should be spared because of lingering doubts about his guilt.
Attorneys for death row inmate Ronald Post say assertions that he confessed to the 1983 shooting of Elyria motel clerk Helen Vantz have been falsely exaggerated.
Post is also fighting next month's execution in federal courts by arguing he is too fat to be put to death humanely.
The parole board planned to make a recommendation Friday morning to Gov. John Kasich, who has the final say.
Some board members seemed concerned at a hearing last week about Post's no contest plea.
The Lorain County prosecutor says Post acknowledged responsibility for the crime by making the plea.
