PAINESVILLE, Ohio - A resident whose Painesville home was broken into early Friday morning took action, stabbing the suspect, police say.
Police said it happened at 3 a.m. at the apartments at 39 Pearl Street.
The alleged suspect, a 26-year-old resident was found nearby and taken by Painesville City Rescue to TriPoint Medical Center for treatment of wounds, then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.
The 54-year-old resident also had wounds and was taken to TriPoint Medical Center for treatment.
Neighbor, Ruth Lillstrunt, said she's shocked this happened in their neighborhood. "It's just shocking, in this complex we leave our doors open most of us because we're a family," she said.
Lillstrunt said the 54 year old man was able to fight back and defend himself.
"I don't know how he did it, I'm proud of him. He's banged up, hurt, but I'm proud of him. He wasn't going to go down," said Lillstrunt.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
