EASTLAKE, Ohio - The Chardon community is still healing from a deadly school shooting.
Police say a 17-year-old shot and killed three students inside Chardon High School and injured three others.
One of the survivors was honored in a special way.
Nick Walczak was shot in the back and is now confined to a wheelchair.
Friday night, he threw out the first pitch at the Lake County Captains game.
Nick spoke with NewChannel 5 before the game about the outpouring of support from the community, saying that he heals from all the signs of support.
The Captains presented Nick with a check made out to "The Nick Walczak healing fund."
The team donated two dollars from every ticket pre-purchased to the game and then matched the amount.
Nick says he would like to use the money to buy hand controls for his car.
