WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio - Multiple crews responded to an apartment fire in Willoughby Hills Saturday night.
Crews were called out sometime before 10:30pm for a working structure fire at an apartment building the 27000 block of Bishop Park Drive off of Bishop Road in Willoughby Hills.
Willoughby Hills Fire Chief Richard Harmon said when crews arrived on scene they found a significant fire in the kitchen area of an apartment that had spread to the attic. Adjacent apartments were evacuated.
The initial crews on scene contained the fire around 11pm, however a gas line had melted through and was leaking gas into the apartment. Crews were needed to stay on scene and clear the area until the gas company could shut the gas off.
No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
The adjacent apartments suffered minimal damage and residents were able to return for the night.
The apartment with the most damage is currently uninhabitable and members of the Red Cross were on scene to help the displaced resident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
