MENTOR, Ohio - A man shot himself in the head in the middle of a Mentor park on Tuesday.
Mentor police said they received a call at about 5:40 p.m. from a man, who said he wanted to report a burglary in Krueger Park.
When officers arrived, they found the man near a blue truck. According to police, the man stepped back before dropping to his knees and shooting himself in the head.
The Mentor Fire Department took the man to TriPoint Medical Center, where he was then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. He is in critical condition, police said.
The man did not threaten officers and police did not fire shots during the incident, Mentor police said.
Krueger Park is a 30-acre park on Chillicothe Road with soccer fields and a pavilion.
