WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - Conrad Straube has been with the Willoughby Police Department for 34 years. He is planning to retire July 20, and has been chief for the city since 1993.
He worked part-time while going through college at Ohio University. He said he couldn't sit behind a desk and was intrigued by police work. He did police and security work and it helped him fund his way through college. Conrad earned a engineering degree.
After college, he got a part-time job with the Willoughby Police Department and he said it was his calling.
Straube's time is up in the Deferred Retirement Option Program and he said it's time for the younger folks to move into the position.
His dream for the past 10 years was to move to Phoenix, Arizona, where his one son lives.
