PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Lake County sheriff’s deputies arrested a father for allowing his 9-year-old daughter to drive his car in a park which she crashed into a tree.
Authorities said it happened Sunday around 8:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Headland’s State Park in Painesville Township.
The sheriff’s department got called out for a reported crash in the park. When deputies arrived, they found a purple 1998 Honda four-door with extensive front end damage after hitting what authorities describe as a large tree.
An investigation by authorities showed the girl’s 23-year-old father allowed his daughter to drive in the parking lot with him in the passenger seat.
According to the sheriff’s department, the girl was driving too fast and lost control of the car before hitting the tree.
Authorities said the girl was taken from the scene by family members before authorities arrived and was not injured.
Her father, Jaron McGee, wasn’t injured in the crash either, police said.
The girl’s father was arrested for child endangering and others and was booked into the Lake County Jail. He’s also being held on a felony and misdemeanor warrant out of other jurisdictions. Monday morning, he was arraigned on child endangering charges in Painesville Municipal Court.
The case remains under investigation. Authorities said they will be checking on the girl and her welfare.
