WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - A Willoughby Police lieutenant confirmed that an officer involved in an car crash Friday night died from his injuries.

Witnesses on Harmony Lane told NewsChannel 5 that an officer responding to a call was involved in a collision with a blue pick-up truck. After colliding with the truck, the officer’s vehicle hit a tree.

The officer's name and rank have not been released.

Police said that none of the occupants of the pick-up truck were injured.

Willoughby police have announced they will hold a press conference Saturday afternoon to provide information about the crash.
