EASTLAKE, Ohio - As the population of seniors grow, there is a greater need for a hot lunch-time meal during the week for the elderly. Volunteers at the Eastlake nutrition site help prepare hot lunches for seniors who otherwise can't get out.
"Not only is it a hot, well-balance lunch, it's also a bit of socialization and interaction for the home bound senior. Our drivers might be the only person they see that day," said Traci Hassam, from the Council on Aging.
Seventy-five year -old Bill Moster, of Eastlake, has been a volunteer for the past 12 years and realizes that without these meals they would not have a meal for the day.
More than 600 volunteers help provide direct services to Lake County seniors throughout the year, and meet the year-round need. Without the community support, they wouldn't be able to outreach throughout the community.
