MENTOR, Ohio - Mentor police officers Bill Mackey and Terry Wurgler have a new partner to help them protect and serve while on duty.

They are both new K-9 handlers within the city, working side-by-side with Bo and Titan, who are both 2 years old.

Both are trained in area/building search, tracking, officer protection, suspect apprehension and narcotics detection. Mentor's K-9 teams undergo 16 weeks of intensive training before hitting the streets for duty.

Donations from citizens and business partner with Mentor and Lake County allowed the Mentor Police Department to purchase the two dogs and train both officers.

The dogs live at home with their handlers and become members of the family.

The K-9 officers are on call 24 hours a day and are available to assist other law enforcement agencies, if needed.
