LAKE COUNTY, Ohio - An assistant principal at Harvey High School in Painesville has resigned after being placed on administrative leave.
David Klingenberg was placed on leave on August 30 and had been investigated since May 2011. The superintendent's office said Klingenberg may have violated a policy regarding the maintenance of proper boundaries with students. No further information was provided regarding specific accusations.
In a letter sent home to parents, Painesville City School Superintendant Michael P. Hanlon, Jr. wrote, "Clearly, it is distressing to be writing a letter like this to you. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of the students you place in our care. Be assured we will not tolerate behavior that jeopardizes the trust you and your children place in us. We will continue to pursue this matter."
The Painesville Local City Schools Board of Education accepted Klingenberg's resignation on Monday.
The resignation was effective immediately.
