NORWALK TWP, OH - One man is dead and one woman is injured after the couple lost control of their vehicle, crashing into a mailbox, a tree and a house in Norwalk Township.
Troopers with Norwalk Post of The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 11:33 a.m. on State Route 61, East of Tumney Trail.
The driver, 72-year-old Olray Jones of Norwalk, was driving a white 1991 Plymouth Voyager Van southbound on SR 61. Mr. Jones ran off the left side of the road, struck a mailbox and then traveled off the right side of the road. Mr. Jones then struck a tree and a house.
Mr. Jones was traveling with one passenger, 74-year-old Renate Jones of Norwalk. Both occupants were entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by mechanical means.
Mr. Jones was pronounced dead on scene. Mrs. Jones was transported by Toldeo St. Vinvent Lifeflight to the University of Toledo Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.
Troopers said it is unknown if speed or alcohol were a factor at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
