NORWALK, Ohio - A Norwalk man has been arrested after he attacked a 9-month-old baby, causing several broken bones, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff Dane Howard said 20-year-old Christoffer Mychal Mills was charged with felonious assault for injuring his girlfriend’s infant boy. Mills is not the father of the child and lived with the boy's mother.

The staff at Akron Children’s Hospital found four fractures on the boy’s extremities and five more on his torso. According to Howard, the most recent incident happened on July 19, but there were three others that happened over the last two months.

“There was a series of attacks and the infant was already suffering from previous untreated injuries,” Howard said. “Those attacks on that child went unreported and those injuries went untreated.” The sheriff said Mills admitted to losing his temper and hurting the child.

The 9-month-old was released from Akron Children’s Hospital and is now in the care of a Huron County foster family.

“There’s not enough I can say about the staff at Akron Children’s Hospital and how beneficial they were to help us bring this investigation to a successful end,” Howard said. He also credited to the Huron County Department of Family Services.

Mills’ Edwards Road home was searched on Thursday for more evidence in the case. He remains at the Huron County Jail on $100,000 bond. He has no criminal record and if convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison.

The case is still in the early stages of investigation and more charges could be filed dealing with the care and neglect of the baby boy, Howard said.
