CHARDON, Ohio - Thursday is the first day of school for Chardon High students, and the sixth-month anniversary of the shootings at the school's cafeteria is coming up in four days.

The district has some tips for parents, as it could be difficult for kids to once again go back to school.

On its website , there's a link called "Returning to School after a Traumatic Event." It's an article written by a behavioral health agency called Beech Brook from Cuyahoga County and has tips to pass along to parents.

The article said how important it is to have students on a routine so they have a sense of control and safety.

It also said research shows children who are given support to work through a trauma end up being
more compassionate and helpful than their peers.

On Aug. 27, the community plans to honor the three teens killed and three others injured in the high school shooting. The Facebook page called " Chardon Angels of Hope " is asking people to light a candle, and bring some flowers or teddy bears to the Chardon gazebo.

The page is asking volunteers to go to the Geauga County Fair and release one balloon in the name of each child who passed or was injured in the shootings.

TJ Lane was charged with the shooting deaths. He could face life in prison if convicted.

Lane's attorneys have until the end of next month to complete his psychological exams. They still have to decide whether to change his not guilty plea to not guilty by reason of insanity.
