MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio - Two Middlefield police officers were shot during a traffic stop Sunday night just before 6 p.m.
The Geauga County Sheriff said a suspect shot at the two officers from his vehicle before the officers had a chance to exit the cruiser on Route 608 (North State Avenue) and Tare Creek.
The officers returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene.
A female officer was shot in the hand and taken to a nearby hospital by medical helicopter to undergo emergency surgery.
The other officer was also hit in his leg with bullet fragments.
Both officers are expected to fully recover.
Officials said the suspect, who has not yet been identified, was using a semi-automatic gun.
It is unknown how many shots were fired.
