AUBURN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - It’s called a “small show with a big purpose.”

Local skaters and community members are joining forces on Sunday, June 10 to help a 3-year-old boy from Auburn Township who is in need of a life saving heart transplant.

Charlie McMicken was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy at birth. He was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic on October 3, 2011 and remains hospitalized awaiting his transplant. In February, Charlie underwent surgery to implant an assist device called the Berlin Heart, which has successfully stabilized the function of his heart while he continues his wait.

His procedures are costly (projected to exceed $750,000) and volunteers are gathering around the country in an effort to raise money to cover Charlie's transplant related medical expenses.

The Pond Ice Rink in Auburn is hosting “Skating for Heart with Charlie” –a benefit program featuring an entire day of activities including a lunch, out door activities, a figure skating exhibition and free beginner skating lessons.

The skating exhibition will feature guest appearances by national ice dance medalists Kimberley Berkovich and Micah Jaffe and Hannah Rosinski and Jacob Jaffe.
