Ohio Attorney General honors Chardon High School shooting first responders

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine honored a packed house of law enforcement officers from across the state Friday.

Of the thousand Ohio law enforcement workers in attendance, 72 were first responders to the Chardon High School shooting Feb. 27.

Honored were responders represented by those from the Chardon Police Department, Geauga County Sheriff's Office, Geauga County Prosecutor's Office, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Chester Township Police Department, Ohio State Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Chardon Police-Prosecutor Victim Assistance Program and the Geauga Park District.

"It's very important to me to honor those who responded to this horrible, horrible tragedy and it was really a team effort, you know," DeWine said. "All the different law enforcement agencies that were there during the tragedy, the later investigation, and the aftermath from victim's advocate groups to the prosecuting attorney's office proved that the community worked together."

"You hope you never have to respond to a tragedy like that, but law enforcement was prepared, victim advocates were prepared, and the school was prepared."
