CHARDON, Ohio - The name of a student killed after a shooting rampage at Chardon High School Monday has been released.

A spokeswoman for MetroHealth Medical Center said Daniel Parmertor died as a result of being shot.

His family released this statement through the hospital:

“We are shocked by this senseless tragedy. Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss.  We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.“

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office said Parmertor was 16 years old.

His uncle, Ron Parmertor, said the junior at Chardon High School and Auburn Career Center liked computers. He was waiting to be transferred to Auburn today when the shooting happened.

"I think it's just a senseless tragedy. It's a shame that somebody has to do something like this to prove a point. If you have a problem you need to contact your local police department and handle it the proper way and not take matters into your own hands," Ron Parmertor said.

The family is leaning on friends, family and students for support during this tough time. Monday afternoon, the Parmertor family home was packed with students as they all remember and honor their friend.

Neighbor, Ben Miraglia, said, "He was a really nice young man. I really enjoyed his company. I played basketball with him once in awhile. I'm in shock over this as many are, and I'm really going to miss this kid. He was good to me."

Parmertor and two other victims from the shooting were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center following the shooting.

Two other victims taken to Hillcrest Hospital are a 17-year-old boy, who is in serious condition, and an 18-year-old girl, who is in stable condition, according to a hospital representative.

Police said the gunman who opened up fire in the school early Monday turned himself in after a teacher apparently chased him out of the building.
