CHARDON, Ohio - As court was wrapping up for Chardon school shooter TJ Lane, a Geauga County judge said he couldn't tell Lane was wearing a T-shirt with the word "KILLER" handwritten across it.

Following his life in prison without parole sentence for the murders of Daniel Parmertor, Demetrius Hewlin and Russell King Jr., prosecutors asked that two things be put on the record:

1. After Lane walked into the packed courtroom Tuesday, he calmly unbuttoned his blue dress shirt to reveal the T-shirt reading "KILLER," which the prosecutor noted was similar to the one he wore the day of the deadly shooting at Chardon High School.

2. Lane turned in his chair toward the victims' relatives and raised his middle finger at them as he spoke, "The hand that pulls the trigger that killed your sons now masturbates to the memory."

Geauga County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fuhry replied, "the first I cannot confirm, but the second I can confirm for the record."

Lane's apparel and words didn't go unnoticed by family members of those who lost their loved ones that tragic day, but they did surprise his attorney.

Nate Mueller, a student wounded in Lane's rampage Feb. 27, 2012, dismissed the outburst.

"He said it like a scared little boy and couldn't talk slow enough that anyone could understand him."

Following the day's proceedings, Fuhry issued the below statement:

Except when the judge entered the courtroom the defendant was seated for the entire sentencing. The court was unaware of the shirt. The court did not notice the shirt.

Had the court noticed the shirt, the court would have immediately stopped the proceedings, adjourned the court and the court would have ordered the defendant to put on proper attire.

However disgusting it may be, the defendant has a right to make a statement at sentencing.
