CHARDON, Ohio - Junior Haley Tierney was in math class inside Chardon High School when the shooting started.
"We were sitting there and you could hear everyone running down the hallway. Then you could hear the gunshots. They started screaming lock down and you didn't know what was going on," she said.
Her teacher told them to get down. Tierney said that's when a student in the hallway was shot. She said the boy was one of her friends.
"He was in the hallway when they were all running away. He (the gunman) was chasing him," she said.
The junior said her teacher did not leave the wounded student in the hallway.
"He has lockers in his classroom and he was so protective. He grabbed a bulletproof vest and a hammer and closed the door and made sure we were OK. He brought the kid in our room and helped him and held him there until the medics got there," she said.
Five students were shot Monday morning at Chardon High School. The gunman, identified by the ATF as 17-year-old T.J. Lane was arrested by police.
