CHARDON, Ohio - After high schools across northeast Ohio rallied support to push Chardon High School to the top of the Rock Your Prom contest, the recovering community received an extra surprise.
Chardon High School won the 96.5 KISS FM contest by an overwhelming vote. On Tuesday, KISS FM announced that the band Cobra Starship will perform at the school’s May 5 prom. The band is known for hit songs like “Good Girls Go Bad” and “You Make Me Feel.”
According to KISS FM, Cobra Starship contacted the radio station and offered to perform after they heard Chardon won. The school’s prom has also been moved to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and will featured popular KISS FM DJs.
"We wanted to show our support for the community and create a once-in-a-lifetime event for Chardon High School," said program director Bo Matthews, in a news release on Tuesday. "We strive to support our local listeners especially during times of need and once Chardon High School won the contest, we knew we had to make this prom even more memorable for the students."
On Feb. 27, three Chardon High School students were shot and killed, while two others were injured. Authorities identified the gunman as one of their classmates. Other local high school students created a Facebook page, campaigning for the still shaken community.
American Commodore Tuxedo and Rock the House Entertainment Group are also sponsoring the event.
