MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 4-month-old baby was ejected from an Amish buggy during a crash Thursday evening.

The accident happened on state Route 528 in Middlefield Township at about 5:35 p.m.

The Chardon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Bill Byler, of Middlefield, was driving a buggy on the right shoulder. Dale Martin, 70, of Bedford, hit the back and left side of the buggy with his Chevrolet Trailblazer, troopers said.

The infant was ejected from the buggy and transported to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Troopers said the child was crying and conscious.

The crash is still under investigation and alcohol was not a factor, the patrol said.
