CHARDON, Ohio - Accused Chardon school shooter TJ Lane is scheduled to appear in a Geauga County courtroom Tuesday morning, where he is expected to plead guilty in the shooting deaths of three students and injuring three others.
A hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. before Geauga County Common Pleas Judge David Fuhry. NewsChannel5 plans to offer a live feed of the event (check back just before 9:30 for a link).
Lane originally entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, but NewsChannel5 was the first to report on Feb. 15 that a plea deal was in the works.
Lane's defense attorney said the teenager plans to plead guilty Tuesday morning in court.
Lane's trial was scheduled to begin last month, but was postponed following motions by both prosecutors and defense attorneys that referenced new information in the case.
If convicted at trial, Lane faced life in prison without parole.
Tuesday's hearing comes one day short of the one-year mark for the shooting rampage. The school planned several events Wednesday to help students in their healing.
